NEWS

2008 - 2009 - 2010 - 2011

BLACK SABBATH

THE MANOR TAPES LP

TRACY G - THE DIO YEARS -

BOOK PRE-ORDER HERE:

http://tracyg.com/

PRESS RELEASE...

Ex Dio guitarist Tracy G announces that Current Hydrogyn vocalist Julie Westlake has signed on to do a series of recordings with his Tracy G group for a release that will coincide with his book coming out in the spring. The release will be a collection of songs that he had written along with Ronnie James Dio for his two studio releases Strange Highways and Angry Machines along with a collection of material from his post Dio material.

They have already entered the G factory studios and started on the project with a series of tunes close to completion. The band for the recording is Tracy's band that played on the 2011 Controlled Chaos that has Johnny B on Drums and vocals and Eddie Frisco on Bass. There are also talks of live shows in the works for this to take place in the Los Angeles area this spring or summer. As that info becomes more clear there will be further update.

Westlake has a release of her own coming out on March 20th of this year with her band HYDROGYN as well and more info on that release will be available in the days and weeks to come.

The book which is titled G The Dio years and Beyond the Skull is currently in its final stages. In the book Tracy talks about everything from how he got the gig and how he eventually left the band and what he has been up to since. He also talks very fondly of Ronnie James Dio and mentions how he was a very cool person as noted form this passage from the book.

"Behind the scenes and away from the reporters, camera's and industry people Ronnie was very relaxed and calm" Tracy says. "Very comfortable to be around him and he was very much a regular guy at those times." Ronnie was always doing cool things like letting Tracy watch his video library of film from the Rainbow and Sabbath days all the way to inviting G's parents to the house for a tour and just a get to know them time as Ronnie was well aware of the support that Tracy's parents gave him in his life to be a musician and succeed at what he loved.

Ronnie took the Grijalva's through the entire spotless house which he kept cleaned all on his own. He told them he once had a house keeper but had to let her go because he kept the house cleaner than she did. Then they hit the room that Tracy was occupying and he told him that he was not in any way responsible for that room as it was Tracy's mess. This was the Dio that people who met him came to know which is much different than the dragon fighting wizard that the public in general had seen for many years.

More details on the book, when and how you can get it will be coming in the days ahead.

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi given cancer boost with guitar therapy

BLACK SABBATH's TONY IOMMI Given Cancer Boost With Guitar Therapy -
According to Birmingham Mail, a music craftsman in Birmingham, England has just delivered a cherry red SG guitar to cancer-stricken BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi. He is now working on another, which will be ready for Tony — who is battling lymphoma — in two months.

Both are replicas of Tony's famous "Monkey" SG, crafted by John in 1975. Now in mothballs, the guitar is one of the most famous in the world.

John — head of Jaydee Custom Guitars, a family business he runs with sons Mike and Andy — told the Birmingham Mail Iommi wants a collection of the instruments, all given a "fatigued" finish so they look old.

John Diggins in his Digbeth workshop making a guitar for Tony Iommi

A BIRMINGHAM music craftsman is hoping to give cancer-stricken rock legend Tony Iommi a boost – with some guitar therapy.

John Diggins has just delivered a cherry red SG guitar to the Handsworth-born founder of Black Sabbath.

And he’s now working on another, which will be ready for Tony – who is battling lymphoma – in two months.

Both are replicas of Tony’s famous ‘Monkey’ SG, crafted by John in 1975. Now in mothballs, the guitar is one of the most famous in the world.

John – head of Jaydee Custom Guitars, a family business he runs with sons Mike and Andy – told the Mail Iommi wants a collection of the instruments, all given a ‘fatigued’ finish so they look old.

He said: “The guitars keep him occupied, which I think is important. He told me he wants a wall covered with them.”

The 67-year-old refused to comment on costs, but admitted it ran into thousands.

John’s association with heavy metal legend Iommi stretches back 40 years. The black Jaydee SG became the heavy metal legend’s trademark. “Its probably the most photographed guitar in the world,” added John. “He used it for 30 years before deciding it was time to wrap it in cotton wool.”

Tony Iommi

To date, John has built from scratch three replicas. He admitted: “News of the illness was clearly a shock, but luckily they have caught it early.

“He’s not the kind of person who will just sit back. The guitars will keep him busy.”

Left-handed player Iommi lost the tips of two fingers while working in a sheet metal factory as a teenager, but learnt to play with thimble-like devices to extend them.

News he is fighting lymphoma came only months after the original Sabbath line-up – Tony, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward – were working on their first album together in 33 years. A worldwide tour is also planned.

Last week, Iommi thanked his legion of fans. He said: “I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much.

“It’s really good that the guys are coming over so we can work on the album as things are going great.”

Sabbath, renowned for Iommi’s powerful riffs, were formed in 1969 and have influenced generations of heavy metal bands. Tony was named greatest metal guitarist of all time by Guitar World in 2004.

BLACK SABBATH Bassist: IOMMI Has Written Two New Songs Since Being Diagnosed With Cancer
BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler has issued an update on the recording sessions for original SABBATH lineup's first album together in 33 years.

SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi was diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, it was revealed earlier this month. Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system. According to a statement issued by his publicist, the 63-year-old metal legend is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan and remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.

In a brand new post on his official web site, Butler writes, "Today [January 19th] we got the engines back up and running at Tony's home studio. Far from being down and depressed about his lymphoma diagnosis, Tony had already written the music for two new songs, and I must say it has given us all a kick up the rump — it's great to hear him churning out those riffs again, assuaging the Demon C. Takes more than that to stop Tony. Can't wait for you all to hear our workings; it has been great working on this stuff.

He adds, "I want to thank the lovely encouraging emails sent to this site giving Tony love and encouragement and great vibes. It really does help, not only Tony, but us as a band — it raises up our spirits and restores our faith in this tarnished world.

"SABB fans are good people. Time and again, you have proven your faith in us and boosted our endeavour.

"Thanks, love, peace."

SABBATH's new album, which is being produced by Rick Rubin, is set for release this fall. SABBATH is scheduled to embark on a world tour this summer, although Iommi's illness could affect those plans.

Iommi's bandmate in SABBATH and HEAVEN & HELL, legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, died of stomach cancer in May 2010 at the age of 67.

BLACK SABBATH Still Intends To Perform At U.K.'s DOWNLOAD Festival -
According to The Pulse Of Radio, organizers of England's Download festival are saying that BLACK SABBATH still intends to perform at the event, scheduled for June 8-10, despite guitarist Tony Iommi's cancer diagnosis.

SABBATH was reportedly also slated to play at this April's Coachella festival in California, but pulled out of that show one day before its lineup was announced when Iommi's illness was revealed.

Download organizer Andy Copping said, "I've been told that BLACK SABBATH are going to be playing Download. I don't want people to worry unduly about that, we should all just send our thoughts and best wishes to Tony Iommi."

Other acts on the bill include METALLICA, SOUNDGARDEN, THE PRODIGY, ANTHRAX, LAMB OF GOD, UGLY KID JOE and more.

Iommi told The Pulse Of Radio that ever since re-learning how to play guitar after severing two fingertips as a teenager, he's always been determined to fight his way through anything. "I've always been the same," he said. "I always have to try to get over that barrier, whatever it may be, and do it, you know. And that's continued in what I do with the music. People have said over the years, 'Well, why do you still keep playing and why do you still hold BLACK SABBATH together through the different lineups?' Because I'm determined to do it, I'm determined to carry on. And it's been with everything like that."

Iommi's bandmate in SABBATH and HEAVEN & HELL, legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, died of stomach cancer in May 2010 at the age of 67.

NEW LP BOOTLEG

'THE MANOR TAPES' !!!!

I'm waiting this bootleg, and tell you more infos soon.

BLACK SABBATH

Presented in stunning Born Again era artwork and photos,  this one is a very hard to find record from one of the best Metal bands ever!

A Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Fan Club Production (SBS002).

(infos price: seems between 15 to 20 euros)

Tracklist Side A:

01. Hot Line
02. Keep It Warm
03. The Fallen
(unreleased track)
04. Digital Bitch
05. Stonehenge

Tracklist Side B:
06. Thrashed
07. Zero The Hero
08. Born Again
09. Disturbing The Priest

Some infos by a fan (BS.com source)

For you Born Again freaks out there, the bootlegs with the Born Again demos including "The Fallen" are no news really, especially now since "the Fallen" was also officially released on the new Born Again DE. However, I have only seen these bootlegs on CD, but today I discovered a new LP edition from "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" label (completely unheard of, bootleg or semi-bootleg probably). It's called "The Manor Tapes", has a reworked cool version of the album cover and promises the same old track listing as on those CD bootlegs I've seen before (and own). Anyway, I know we aren't really supposed to discuss bootlegs and such, especially not trading, but I hope it's ok with Joe if I post the link to the LP, it's in a "serious" record store which has much much great music so it's no "real" bootleg so to speak.

If I'm breaking the rules here, then sorry, just shut the thread down if that's the case ^^.

EX-DIO

Ex-DIO Guitarist TRACY G's 'The Dio Years And Beyond The Skull' Book: Cover Artwork Unveiled
Former DIO guitarist Tracy "G" Grijalva is working on a book that will chronicle his time in DIO (from 1993 through 1999). In the book, titled "Tracy G: The Dio Years And Beyond The Skull", Tracy talks about everything — from how he got the gig and how he eventually left the band and what he has been up to since. He also speaks very fondly of Ronnie James Dio, as noted in the following passage from the book.

"Behind the scenes and away from the reporters, cameras and industry people, Ronnie was very relaxed and calm," Tracy says. "[It was] very comfortable to be around him and he was very much a regular guy at those times."

Ronnie was always doing "cool" things like letting Tracy watch Dio's video library of film from the RAINBOW and BLACK SABBATH days, as well as inviting G's parents to the singer's house for a tour. Ronnie took the Grijalvas through the entire spotless house, which he kept cleaned all on his own. He told Tracy's parents that he once had a housekeeper but had to let her go because he kept the house cleaner than she did. Then they hit the room that Tracy was occupying and he told him that he was not in any way responsible for that room as it was Tracy's mess.

Tracy left DIO in 1999 after he claimed he was "asked to play in a dual-guitar situation" in Ronnie's band. According to a posting on Tracy's web site, DIO was "looking for more of a Ritchie Blackmore style . . . and wanted [Tracy] to step back and just play rhythm guitar. That's when [Tracy] knew it was time to leave, freeing him to more diligently pursue his home studio projects."

"Tracy G: The Dio Years And Beyond The Skull" is being co-written by HYDROGYN guitarist Jeff Westlake — described by Tracy as "a big DIO fan" — and will be available for shipping in late March from
www.tracyg.com.

As previously reported, Grijalva has joined forces with current HYDROGYN vocalist Julie Westlake to record a collection of songs Tracy had written with Ronnie James Dio for the DIO releases "Strange Highways" and "Angry Machines" along with some of the guitarist's post-DIO material. The recordings are taking place at Tracy's G Factory studios and will include musicians that played on Grijalva's 2011 album, "Controlled Chaos"Johnny B on drums and vocals and Eddie Frisco on bass. There is also talk of live shows taking place in the Los Angeles area this spring or summer.

GLENN HUGHES

Tribute To Late DEEP PURPLE Guitarist TOMMY BOLIN: 'Great Gypsy Soul' Album Details Revealed -
In the annals of rock history, Tommy Bolin occupied a brief, but shining stint as a brilliant guitarist who wowed those in the know with his mastery of many genres —rock, fusion, funk, reggae and heavy metal among others. Along with a much-lauded solo career that, pushed the boundaries of rock/jazz fusion, Bolin played with THE JAMES GANG and DEEP PURPLE, which set him up for major solo guitar stardom which was cut short by his untimely death in 1976.

Not to be overlooked, there's been much written about the guitar wunderkind and now a top notch roster of players have signed on to pay tribute to Bolin on "Great Gypsy Soul". Produced by Greg Hampton and Warren Haynes, it's a remarkable project that brings together major players who actually perform alongside Tommy Bolin's playing and vocals from the recording outtakes to his solo debut album "Teaser". Peter Frampton, Warren Haynes (a key supporter of the project), Nels Cline, Steve Lukather, Steve Morse, Brad Whitford, Joe Bonamassa, John Scofield, Derek Trucks, Glenn Hughes and Myles Kennedy all contribute to this amazing project.

"Great Gypsy Soul" will be released on 429 Records on March 27 in both a single CD format and double CD with bonus tracks. A series of promotional concerts are also in the works.

Tommy Bolin was the quintessential guitar prodigy who focused his talents within the burgeoning rock/metal scenes of the early '70s as well as mastered a highly lauded jazz fusion technique, catching the attention of rock tastemakers and guitar legend peers. It was just a matter of time before Bolin was making a name for himself playing on projects as diverse as Billy Cobham's "Spectrum" project (considered one of the great jazz fusion recordings of all time), replacing Joe Walsh in THE JAMES GANG, playing session work on seminal fusion projects by MOXY and ALPHONSE MOUZON, to replacing Ritchie Blackmore in DEEP PURPLE. With the release of his second solo album, "Private Eyes", what should have been a red letter moment for Bolin, opening up for Jeff Beck in Miami, sadly turned tragic as Bolin was found dead of an overdose shortly after the gig.

Says Warren Haynes: "Many of the guests added after the fact have a close personal connection to Tommy — all share in acknowledging his place in rock history. Watching (and hearing) it all come to fruition some 35 years later was a journey of its own — well worth the travel."

SHARON And OZZY OSBOURNE Featured In 'CBS's Cares Colonoscopy Sweepstakes' Campaign -
CBS and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital are joining forces to increase awareness for colon cancer and promote early screening to help save lives by launching the second CBS Cares Colonoscopy Sweepstakes.

The 2012 CBS Cares Colonoscopy Sweepstakes launched this past weekend during "60 Minutes" with a PSA featuring colon cancer survivor and "The Talk" host Sharon Osbourne, along with her husband, Ozzy. Alan Kalter, the announcer of "The Late Show With David Letterman", is also featured in the PSA.

"Ozzy and I are proud to be part of this innovative project by CBS," said Osbourne. "My life was saved by a colonoscopy that Ozzy urged me to have and I hope everyone who sees the campaign will enter the sweepstakes and talk to their doctor about the importance of screenings."

The PSAs will be featured on the CBS Television Network, CBS Radio, CBS Outdoor and across a wide range of CBS Interactive platforms. The campaign will also be promoted internally and externally by NewYork-Presbyterian.

The 11-week sweepstakes campaign continues the long tradition at CBS Cares of effectively using humor to connect with viewers on serious health issues, a strategy developed in close consultation with medical experts who agree that health messages on important topics need to engage viewers in innovative ways.

"CBS is proud of CBS Cares' record of creatively tackling tough issues that impact the lives of millions of our viewers and are not always openly talked about, such as the life-saving potential of colorectal cancer screenings," said Martin Franks, Executive Vice President, Planning, Policy & Government Affairs, CBS Corporation. "By using humor to acknowledge some of the awkwardness surrounding an important medical screening, we expect to attract the attention of many viewers, which, in our opinion, is the foundation of a meaningful PSA campaign. We are pleased to be teaming up with NewYork-Presbyterian on this important and creative initiative."

The sweepstakes grand prize winner will receive a trip for two to New York City, including three nights at a hotel near Central Park and a free colonoscopy for the winner by Dr. Paul Miskovitz, M.D., a leading gastroenterologist and colon cancer expert at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and clinical professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College.

Of cancers affecting both men and women, colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the United States. The disease is often preventable and, when detected early, highly curable. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends screening for individuals beginning at age 50 years and continuing until age 75 years. Those at higher risk of developing colorectal cancer should begin screening at a younger age, and may need to be tested more frequently.

The sweepstakes ends March 31, 2012, and the winner will be selected by random drawing in early April.

Message From Tony

13th January 2012
Message From Tony

My fans, friends & colleagues -

I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much.

Well it's not what I wanted for Christmas, that's for sure, but now I can't wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment.

It's really good that the guys are coming over so that we can continue working on the album as things are going great in the studio.

Well, not much else to say at this time, so thanks again.

Bless you all,

Tony

BLACK SABBATH's Cancer-Stricken Guitarist 'Can't Wait' To 'Get Going With The Treatment' -

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, it was revealed on Monday (January 9). Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system. According to a statement issued by his publicist, the 63-year-old metal legend is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan and remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.

The news comes as the original SABBATH lineup — Iommi, singer Ozzy Osbourne, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward — are writing and recording their first album together in 33 years. The disc is set for release this fall and SABBATH is scheduled to embark on a world tour, although Iommi's illness could affect those plans.

SABBATH has been working on its new album in Los Angeles, but now will head back to London to accommodate Iommi's plans for treatment.

In a brand new statement posted on his official web site, Iommi writes, "My fans, friends and colleagues,

"I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much.

"Well, it's not what I wanted for Christmas, that's for sure, but now I can't wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment.

"It's really good that the guys are coming over so that we can continue working on the album as things are going great in the studio.

"Well, not much else to say at this time, so thanks again.

"Bless you all, Tony."

RAINBOW: 'Long Live Rock 'N' Roll' Picture Disc To Be Made Available For 'Record Store Day' -
For this year's Record Store Day (April 21), Niji Entertainment Group, the record label Wendy Dio and her late husband Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, RAINBOW, ELF) formed before his untimely passing, will release a deluxe picture disc of RAINBOW's "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll". Each picture disc is numbered and only 2,500 were made. 250 units will be held back for fans that live outside the USA and will be made available via the Niji webstore.

About Record Store Day: Record Store Day is managed by the Music Monitor Network and is organized in partnership with the Alliance Of Independent Media Stores (AIMS), the Coalition Of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) and celebrates the culture of independent record stores by playing host to in-store events/performances, signings and special product releases on a global scale.

Record Store Day takes place annually on the third Saturday of April.

Bassist Bob Daisley, who was a member of RAINBOW from 1977 to 1979, in August 2010 posted high-quality video footage of of RAINBOW performing the songs "Gates of Babylon", "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" and "L.A. Connection" at a New York studio prior to the release of the band's third studio album, 1978's "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll'. You can watch the clips below.

Although Bob Daisley and David Stone are listed on the "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" credits for their contributions, they joined RAINBOW after the recording sessions had already commenced and only appear on a couple of tracks. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore played most of the bass parts himself for the album.

"Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" was remastered on CD for the U.S. market in April 1999, with the European version following later. The U.S. version had a matte booklet/insert, which matched the original vinyl sleeve for all markets, whereas the European issue was the standard glossy type.

This was RAINBOW's last album to feature Ronnie James Dio on vocals. He left, later to join BLACK SABBATH, and was replaced by Graham Bonnet.

In June 2009 a CD-size book about the making of album was released in the series "Rock Landmarks" called "Long Live Rock N' Roll Story". It was written by RAINBOW and Blackmore expert Jerry Bloom.

Was BLACK SABBATH Confirmed For COACHELLA? -
According to Billboard.com, the reunited original lineup of BLACK SABBATH was one of the planned headliners for this year's Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival, but was forced to pull out just before yesterday's official lineup announcement due to guitarist Tony Iommi's recent lymphoma diagnosis.

It's unclear which artist was added as a last-minute replacement for Coachella, which will be headlined by RADIOHEAD, the BLACK KEYS and DR. DRE and SNOOP DOGG, and held for the first time over two weekends (April 13-15, April 20-22) in Indio, California.

Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, it was revealed on Monday (January 9). Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system. JUDAS PRIEST, DISTURBED, LAMB OF GOD, ARCH ENEMY Members Send Best Wishes To TONY IOMMI -
A number of hard rock and heavy metal musicians have taken to Twitter to offer best wishes to legendary BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi, who announced earlier today that he has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system.

Iommi, 63, is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan and remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.

This comes as BLACK SABBATHOzzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums) — are writing and recording their first album in 33 years in Los Angeles (still set for release this fall) with producer Rick Rubin. They will now go to the U.K. to continue to work with Tony.

ANTHRAX (band): "This really does suck. GET WELL SOON TONY!"

Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES): "Best wishes for a full recovery to Tony Iommi."

Robb Rivera (NONPOINT): "Just when i was happy to announce that I had finished his book last night, today I read this sad story about metal."

David Draiman (DISTURBED): "Everyone please send their prayers/good vibes/best wishes to Tony Iommi for a speedy recovery; he has been diagnosed [with] lymphoma."

Sebastian Bach (SKID ROW): "All hail the mighty Tony Iommi. & FUCK YOU, Cancer."

Tommy Clufetos (OZZY OSBOURNE, ROB ZOMBIE, ALICE COOPER): "All my positive vibes to Tony Iommi of [BLACK SABBATH] for a healthy speedy recovery... A true rock legend!!"

Randy Blythe (LAMB OF GOD): "I absolutely insist that every single follower of mine, religious or not, send a prayer up for Tony Iommi. He has been diagnosed with lyphoma. It's in its early stages — SABBATH is writing a new record, and they are continuing to. Iommi is the reason heavy metal exists. Pray for him. You pray to Crom, Odin, yourself — don't care who. Just send up some positive vibes for Tony Iommi. This is terrible news for metal. I've toured with Iommi a coupla times. He is a gentleman and a living legend. Hopefully since it's in early stages they can beat it pretty easily. But Iommi's not a young man, so think good thoughts! It is no secret that I have donated both my time, energy, facial hair, and a fair amount of my money to cancer research. I've walked the walk (literally) as well as talked the talk. However, there's nothing wrong with positive vibes."

Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE): "Big BL get well wishes out to Lord Iommi!!!"

Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION): "Prayers please for my brother Tony Iommi... We all pray for a full, speedy recover from cancer.... Much love…"

Angela Gossow (ARCH ENEMY): "Very, very sad to hear about Tony Iommi's cancer diagnosis. FIGHT! You never know what the future holds for you. Live and love every day!"

EXHORDER: "Get well soon Tony Iommi. Sad news."

Frank Bello (ANTHRAX): "Get well soon Tony!!"

Richie Faulkner (JUDAS PRIEST): "My thoughts go out to Tony Iommi and I wish him a fast and full recovery."

Gus G. (OZZY OSBOURNE, FIREWIND): "I'm in shock to hear the news about Tony Iommi. Get well soon 'Iron Man'!! Your biggest fan."

Michael Amott (ARCH ENEMY, CARCASS): "Here's hoping for a solid and speedy recovery for my guitar hero Tony Iommi!"

Niji Entertainment Group (the record label Wendy Dio and her late husband Ronnie James Dio formed before his untimely passing): "Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Tony Iommi and his family! Please say a prayer!"
